If you’re reading this, perhaps your body is in pain and you’re looking for a way out. I know how that feels. Pilates hasn’t always been a part of my story.
Like many working mothers, I was juggling a fast-paced career in the corporate world with raising two young children and striving for perfection in all areas. Working hard and exercising even harder was my coping strategy for keeping my head above water and dealing with the daily stress, pressure and deadlines.
Everything changed one Sunday morning when I woke up to face the cumulative impact of a body that on the outside appeared strong and fit, but on the inside was riddled with stress, imbalances and dysfunction. I’d reached a tipping point and enough was enough. It hurt so much to even walk or sit. The pain was so severe I was unable to work, drive or see a way out.
Confronted with the pain from the environmental and physical stresses I’d been placing on my body, I was forced to question how I was living my life and why my body had got so out of balance. I was desperate to be free from pain. That’s when I discovered Pilates. With dogged determination to realign my body and come back stronger, Pilates strengthened, lengthened and rebalanced me. But more importantly, Pilates re-wrote my story.
I never returned to the corporate world. Instead, with an evangelical belief in the power of Pilates to transform the body, I retrained as a Certified Stott Pilates Instructor and founded Citizen Core to help others achieve the gift of a strong, balanced body that moves with ease and freedom. Pilates for the People.
